Seed catalogs- Updated for 2010

There are many seed companies out there so I will tell you what I think of some of them and which are my favorite. Keep in mind I am focusing on vegetables and fruits with these companies, many of them sell flowers, but that is not my thing.

Local nurseries are a great resource also and I buy my starts and supplies from them, however, sometimes they don’t have varieties that I want or they don’t sell quality seeds, that is why I go to one of these places for seeds.

Seed Catalogs

Burpee-Pretty large selection, good catalog to have, I heard somewhere that they mix their old seeds with the new year’s seeds, but I could be wrong.

Henry Field’s- good selection, good quality, good catalog to have. I have not been happy with their shipping schedule, I always get my plants too late so I only order seeds from them, even then I got some seeds later than I wanted.

Harris Seeds- decent selection, never ordered from yet.

Territorial Seed Company- My favorite catalog from a description standpoint. Lots of selection. Must order this catalog.

Park Seed- I like this one alot too. Good information, great selection, I even like the emails they send with all kinds of good information. Seeds came fast. I do most of my ordering here if I can.

Stokes- Probably the most comprehensive. Tons of varieties and they have been in the business a long time. Must have this catalog. They can be expensive.

PineTree Garden Seeds- I just received their catalog this year (2010) and I am really happy with their prices and varieties. I have moved this one up the list and this is quickly becoming a must have.

Specialty catalogs

Indiana Berry Farm- Best catalog for berries, grapes, asparagus, rhubarb, etc. I found many varities in this catalog that I couldn’t get anywhere else. I also like how can choose the ship date.

Nourse Farms- This is also a good berry farm.

Sakuma Bros- This is an online market for berries and such. I have found berries here that I could not find elsewhere. Good price too.

Tomato Growers- Specializes in tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Over 500 varieties. I love this catalog.

Vermont Bean Seed- Specialize in beans. They have so many beans it can be overwhelming

Others (I have no experience with ordering from these, but I get their catalogs and you may like them)

Let me know of others and if you have good/bad experiences with any of these.

Pick the ones that you like and then go to their website and request a catalog.
